You will use Management Portal and Mediasite Tools to prepare My Mediasite for end users and manage their resources. Make sure to log into Management Portal as a user with Mediasite Administrator permissions.
Overview
Step #1: Setup My Mediasite. As part of Mediasite deployment, My Mediasite is prepared for end-users using Mediasite Tools and Management Portal. As part of setup, the maximum quality for presentations created using the Desktop Recorder (video, screencast) and using video upload is specified.
For more information, contact the person responsible for deploying Mediasite or see “Configuring your site” in the Mediasite Deployment Guide.
Step #2: Specify My Mediasite application settings. You will specify the My Mediasite application settings using Management Portal:
• Select site theme and optionally allow users to override selected theme.
• Specify Mediasite Desktop Recorder and Media Upload settings.
• Update the server group if needed. The default server group is the one created using Mediasite Tools.
• Schedule default actions for presentations created using My Mediasite. These actions will determine when a presentation’s visibility settings change and when it is sent to the Recycle Bin.
For detailed instructions, see Select site’s color theme, Specify My Mediasite support email address, Specify default scheduled actions for My Mediasite, and Set default My Mediasite publishing (visibility) settings.
Step 3: Customize Mediasite Desktop Recorder (MDR) deployment (optional). You will use the Desktop Recorder Deployment settings to customize MDR’s behavior as needed for centralized management and large-scale deployments (e.g. with Microsoft SCCM or Dell KACE).
For detailed instructions, see Customize your Mediasite Desktop Recorder deployment (optional).
Step #4: Import validated user profiles from directory. When you import user profiles from a directory, the user accounts are automatically validated. The user’s username and email address in the directory is associated with their account. Alternatively, you can use user profile provisioning to add validated user profiles to Mediasite.
For detailed instructions, see Import validated user profiles. For more information on user profile provisioning, see Setting up user profile provisioning.
Step #5: Assign permissions. Assign your users execute permissions to a “My Mediasite mode” operation, which will automatically assign them the appropriate set of permissions. You can adjust permissions for specific users as needed if you wish to restrict or expand their access for certain features.
User |
Operations |
Instructors/Teaching Assistants |
My Mediasite Mode: Producer |
Instructors |
My Mediasite Mode: Publisher |
Students |
My Mediasite Mode: Creator |
Admins |
My Mediasite Mode: Full |
For more information, see Assign permissions to Portal operations, Assign permissions to Portal resources XE "permissions: assigning to portal resources" ”, and Using My Mediasite modes.
Step #6: Enable the content approval workflow (optional). If you want to make the content approval workflow available to My Mediasite users, you must enable REA on Mediasite. You must also assign users “approver” and “editor” permissions. Approvers will approve or reject changes as well as provide comments on updated presentations. Editors can make updates to a presentation’s content. You will assign these permissions to folders or specific presentations.
For detailed instructions, see Setting up the content approval workflow.
Step #7: Verify email settings. Verify email settings are correct to ensure emails can be sent as needed for moderation, user profile and review-edit-approve notifications.
Go to Settings > Server Setting > Email Settings to verify the settings needed to send email notifications are correct.
When users are given permissions to moderate, approve, or edit a presentation, they will receive email notifications informing them of changes to their presentations that may require their attention. Therefore, it is important that these settings, typically configured during Mediasite deployment, are correct.
Step #8: Share My Mediasite URLs with the appropriate users. Give users My Mediasite URL: http://<IP address or name>/<Mediasite_name>/MyMediasite
