Adding input sources to your Recorder

Before you begin recording a presentation, you must add input sources to capture the video, audio, and slides for your presentation. All sources must already be connected to the Recorder or network, and turned on, to appear as a source. You will then route sources to outputs.

Considerations when selecting your input devices

Your Recorder allows you to use many types of inputs, so it is important to consider the following when selecting input devices:

When selecting the audio and video inputs for your Recorder, it is best to use the same input types—digital audio input with digital video input and analog audio input with analog video input.

When using a laptop as an image capture device, keep in mind that many laptops require you to use function key combinations to send output to both the laptop’s screen and an external device, in this case the Recorder. If this feature is not enabled, you will not see an input image in the Recorder interface. For more information on configuring your laptop to send output to an external device, see the documentation included with your laptop.

You can use high-resolution video inputs with the Recorder. However, a stream’s encoding settings determine its final resolution.

If using embedded SDI audio, make sure to choose the proper SDI audio channel.

If using two SDI sources, ensure they are recording at the same frame rate.

When using NDI devices connected through the network to capture content, limit the number of devices to two (2) to prevent performance issues.

If you are experiencing noise or interference with an analog audio capture device, try the following:

On RL220 Recorders, use the included RCA to 3.5 mm audio adapter with ferrite core. If the included adapter is not an option, any similar adapter with a ferrite core should be equally effective.

Ensure that the analog audio signal coming into the Recorder is unbalanced.

If HDMI is available, consider using digital audio as it will not experience the same interference as analog audio.
