Setting up Mediasite trusts

You can use Management Portal to establish trust relationships between your Mediasite (source site) and another Mediasite (remote site). Setting up a trust relationship with another Mediasite allows your users to copy and move content between sites. It also allows users to select a trust and assign permissions to user profiles on another Mediasite.

For simplicity, these instructions assume that the person setting up the trust relationship between two sites has access to both systems. If this is not the case, the owners of both sites will have to work together to complete the tasks described below. To perform these tasks, make sure you have the appropriate permissions, including read permissions for the “Mediasite Trust Management” resource.

Trust setup overview

To set up a trust relationship between your Mediasite and a remote Mediasite, you must do the following:

Step 1: On both sites, specify trust settings. As part of a site’s trust settings, you will specify a friendly name for the site and a role prefix. When a user on the remote site imports a role from a trust, the system will append the specified pre-fix to differentiate this role from local roles.

Step 2: On both sites, assign validated profiles (roles) "execute" permissions to the Create Trusts operation. Create a system level role or profile on both sites (for example, TrustUser), validate it, and assign “Create Trust” permissions to it.

Step 3: On the source site, add an outbound trust. When you add a trust on the source site, you are creating an outbound trust on it and an inbound trust on the remote site. You will use the credentials of the account from Step #2 to establish the trust and will specify what role will access the remote system (system access profile).  The remote site must have the same software version, the service root must be reachable, and the trust settings already configured to complete this task successfully. For instructions, see Add outbound trusts below.

Step 4: On the source site, assign roles read access to outbound trust. Users with read access to an outbound trust can export, copy and move content to the remote site using My Mediasite and Management Portal. Users will be able to monitor the status of content they copy and move between sites.

Step 5: On the remote site, import roles from trust. Once the trust is established, on the remote site, you can import roles from the source site. The imported roles will include a pre-fix that indicate their origin (the source site). For instructions, see Add roles from trusts

Step 6: On the remote site, assign imported roles read and write permissions to folders. You will assign roles imported from the source site folder permissions in the same manner you will any other role.

Alternatively, you can assign folder permissions to users by selecting a specific trust, searching for and adding a user profile or group, and then assigning permissions to it.
