Use this checklist to follow along as our team deploys Mediasite Video Platform (MVP) and to track vital information.
PREPARE FOR DEPLOYMENT |
q |
Verify Mediasite installation requirements: Verify the prerequisite software is installed on all machines used in deployment. |
You can use virtual machines if they meet or exceed the minimum system requirements.
Verify appropriate firewall ports have been opened and DNS configured correctly |
q |
Prepare the Mediasite databases: 1. Create two empty databases, one for the Mediasite Platform database and one for the site. 2. Enable snapshot isolation and read committed snapshot on the site database. 3. Create a database user with owner-level permissions for both databases. 4. If using Windows integrated security, specify a database user with full permissions for ASP.NET on the server. |
Database server FQDN or IP address: _____________________________________________ Mediasite Platform database name:______________________ Site database name:____________________________ Database username:___________________________ Password:____________________________________ |
q |
Prepare Mediasite root data location (Do only the steps that apply): Create a directory that will store Mediasite data. Either File Share or FTP/SFTP can be used by the Mediasite system to retrieve and store data in this location. |
For both local and remote data storage locations, you must give the NETWORK SERVICE user full access to the data storage location to ensure that the web applications have full access to it.
Local location: If storing the data locally (on the same machine as the MVP), create a user with read and write permissions for the location. |
Username:____________________________________ Password:____________________________________ Path:_________________________________________ |
Network share: If using a separate server to store Mediasite data, create a network share and a user account for MVP to access the share. Give the user read, write, and modify permissions for the share. |
Username:____________________________________ Password:____________________________________ UNC: _______________________________________ |
Create virtual directory: If you will use FTP or SFTP for secure communication between the MVP and the data location, create a virtual directory that points to the data location.
Mediasite data location
FTP URL: You will need this information later when you configure your content servers. |
SET UP MEDIASITE DIRECTORY |
q |
Add AD LDS role: Add the AD LDS Role on the server where the Mediasite Directory will be located.
Server path (FQDN or IP address of server and port numbers): _____________________________________________
Typically, the Mediasite Directory will reside on the MVP, but it can be installed on another server. |
q |
Configure the Mediasite Directory: Configure the AD LDS directory using the Mediasite Directory installer. |
INSTALL MVP SOFTWARE |
q |
Install MVP software: Install the MVP software for a standard installation. OR Install the MVP software on the primary server in a high-availability installation.
MVP
location: Website: _____________________________________ Virtual directory name:________________________ HTTPS Server
URL:
The built-in or custom account you select for service logon must have the same level of access to the on-demand video storage location as the File Server. If the File Server is using an account other than NETWORK SERVICE to access the on-demand video storage location, then the VFE Service should use the same account. |
CONFIGURE SERVER AND SITE |
q |
Launch the Configuration Editor: Once you exit the MVP installer, the Configuration Editor automatically launches. If the Configuration Editor doesn’t launch, enter its URL in the browser on the server where the MVP is installed. The URL has the following form: https://<FQDN or IP address> /<virtual directory>/Configure |
The Configuration Editor runs using Windows integrated authentication. This means you must authenticate yourself using local administrator credentials. The steps described here are for configuring the MVP and site in a standard installation or the primary server in a high-availability installation. |
On the Server Licensing page, enter your customer ID and click Acquire License. There are three different ways to activate your license: • Acquire license online. • Generate license file on server and submit to Tech Support. • Generate license file on Customer Assurance Portal. |
If you do not know your credentials, contact our technical support experts on the Customer Assurance Portal. |
q |
Add Mediasite Platform database connection: Specify the connection settings for the Mediasite Platform database. (Server Settings > MVP Database) |
The MVP web.config file is backed up in the Mediasite Platform database. This recovery key is used to retrieve the MVP web.config in the case of a server emergency. Copy this key and store it in a safe location. |
q |
Export web.config file: Go to Server Settings > Export Web.Config to export the server’s web.config file. You must enter the same encryption key specified here when you import the file.
In all installations, you will need the exported web.config file to add the site to the System Manager. In a high-availability installation, you will export the primary server’s web.config file and import it on each additional server in the installation. |
q |
Add new site: Launch the Site Wizard in the Configuration Editor. (Home > Add New Site) |
Specify the database connection settings for the site. If the MVP is not able to connect to the database, the wizard will not continue. |
Specify the site name and Root URLs. |
Display name: ________________________________ Site Root
URL: Service Root
URL: |
Enter the data storage path (local or UNC) for the Mediasite data location. |
