Video: How to record your display and camera using Mediasite Capture

You can use Mediasite Capture to record your display (content displayed on your computer screen) and video captured with a camera.  These types of recordings are useful when recording traditional virtual instructor-led lectures. In these lectures,  we see the presenter talking in one video and the material they are presenting in the second video, for example a slideshow, demonstration, or writing equations on a white board.

When recording the display, you have the option of recording content displayed in a web browser tab, a window, or the entire screen. If you have multiple monitors, you can choose which screen to record. Once you have completed your recording, you will upload it to Mediasite where you can edit, enhance, and share the final presentation.

Recording a browser tab on macOS is not supported when using Firefox. Also, when recording audio, the desktop’s audio is not supported.

To record your display and camera:

1.  In My Mediasite, click Add Presentation.

2.  On the Add Presentation page, click Capture Video In-Browser.

3.  When Mediasite Capture launches in a new browser tab next to the one you are currently in, click Display & camera.

4.  Click Allow when prompted to let web capture use your camera. You will see the video preview  in the right frame. If you have multiple cameras attached to your system, click Settings  and use the drop-down list to select the camera you want.

5.  Using the tabs, navigate to and select  the screen content you want to share with your audience:

[Browser] tab

In this panel, select the tab with the content you want to record from the list. You will see a preview of the content as it will appear to your audience.

Click the Share tab audio check box to use the audio from the selected tab instead of your computer’s microphone. You will receive an error if audio output is not available on the tab.

Window

In this panel, select the window you want to share with your audience.

Entire Screen

In this panel, select the desktop screen you want to share with your audience.

Click the Share system audio check box to use the audio from your computer instead of your  microphone.

6.  Once you have selected the content, click Share. Click Next.

If you select a browser tab, the browser opens to that tab where you can toggle between the selected tab and Mediasite Capture. If you select another tab, you are given the option to share that.

7.  Click Microphone to include audio in the recording. When the system notification appears, click Allow. Click Next and select the audio device on the Audio Settings page. Click Next.

If you selected to share the browser tab or system audio when choosing your display, select Without Audio.

8.  Click the Record button  to start recording.

9.  Once you have finished recording, click Upload to Mediasite. Optionally download the recorded video to your device.

If you want to replace the media of an existing presentation, navigate to its properties page, and click Replace Media in the upper-left corner of the video preview window. From the drop-down list, you will have the options of uploading a new video or recording a new video using Mosaic or Capture. All presentation data associated with the original video will be lost.
